If the democrats ran on those things, along with environmental protection and not supporting genocide, voter turnout would probably be better. Unfortunately, the party leadership is owned by the same people as the gop. Campaign finance reform is what's really needed

We still have a huge need for oil, even if we stop using it to power cars and the electrical grid. It might as well benefit the people, as it does in Norway
