I crossed the street to check out what kinda camera he was shooting. He took a picture of me saying “oh it’s fake!” And handed me this cool printout. 😅

Yeah, internet obsession with them has driven the price way up and I assumed I’d never own one!

But the vast majority are hamstrung by broken/breaking lcd cables. And I’m super pleased I was able to get mine repaired!
November 23, 2025 at 2:01 PM
Yup, that is their downfall. Very prone to irreparable and sudden failure. But since so underloved, $20 will get you a new one! 😅😅😅

My allllll time fav is the super program. I guess people don’t like the push buttons but it’s so tiny and perfect.
November 22, 2025 at 11:09 PM
💯

I love so many k mount cameras and the k1000 is probably my least favorite! But it was so often a first camera, so it has the nostalgia factor.

Super Program is also wildly under-loved, but such an awesome tiny camera, even gripped.

Beauty! And yes, not cheap, but definitely outside the Leica hype bubble! I feel similarly about the wonderful Hexar RF.

💯💯

Such great, but super ungainly and not beautiful cameras.

Though I think there has been some increased love for the lenses because they are such a perfect match to custom designed 3d printable bodies!! 🙋🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♂️

What’s your favorite under-appreciated camera?

Every time I carry it, I am reminded that the zx-m (a hand-me-down from a neighbor) is a delight.

Uses all the great Pentax mf lenses. Lightweight. Nice display. Av. Winder. Usually available for ~$20! Better than a k1000.

Pentax 645n, 45-85 4.5, delta 100

It was a big day when we got to this spot, after failing to find the right trail for a couple years.

I love the noise of winders.

My favorite Pentax, the Super Program (Program A) with Motor Drive A.

Can’t beat the #SoundsOfShutters from a 19th century (c.1890?), working Thornton-Pickard “time and instant” roller blind shutter. Has selectable speeds from 1/15-1/90!

The Big behemoth, Mamiya RB67 with motor winder. I feel like this didn’t adequately capture the “thunk”.

The Ricoh Xr-P, with XR-winder 2 grip. An awesome and underloved camera that is not a Pentax super program.

A thread of #SoundsOfShutters for Bsky.

Starting with a favorite, the ensign special reflex: the long shutter lever cranks a big mirror out of the way mechanically before tripping the (somewhat finicky and complex) focal plane shutter.
