🤝Last week, CEN and CENELEC met with Annex III partner ETUC to strengthen the role of trade unions in standardization. Together we agreed on concrete actions for 2026 — reaffirming our commitment to inclusive standardization.

Last week CEN and CENELEC met with our Annex III Partner European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) to discuss ways to strengthen the contribution of trade unions within CEN and CENELEC. This meeting was an opportunity for the CEN Vice-President Technical Annika Andreasen and CENELEC Vice-President Policy Ewa Zielinska to exchange and discuss with Claes-Mikael Stahl – ETUC Deputy General Secretary and agree on concrete actions for 2026. This was the key question at the European DIGITAL SME Alliance Summit where Andreea Gulacsi, Director of Policy & External Affairs at CEN and CENELEC, took part in the insightful panel discussion. 🚀 CEN and CENELEC publish their position on the proposed EU Space Act. As Europe advances its ambition to strengthen competitiveness in the global space economy, CEN and CENELEC have submitted a policy position outlining how standardization can support an effective and future-proof EU Space Act. Their key recommendations focus on creating a coherent and strategic regulatory framework: 🔹 Ensure consistency across EU legislation by applying a harmonized approach to 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, following proven models used in other sectors. 🔹 I𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬. Rather than developing detailed technical rules through implementing or delegated acts, the paper highlights the value of relying on European Standards — and of formally requesting new ones where needed (e.g., cybersecurity, in-space servicing, environmental performance). 🔹 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 between the European Space Agency and the European Standardization Organizations to avoid fragmentation and ensure Europe speaks with one technical voice. 🚀 The European Commission’s 2026 Work Programme is out! The work programme sets a bold course for building a strong, secure, and prosperous Europe — with simplification and competitiveness at its core. At CEN and CENELEC, we are proud to contribute to this ambition through the development of European Standards that strengthen the hashtag#SingleMarket. 📌 The programme outlines 38 new policy objectives and 47 legislative initiatives for the coming year. One key initiative we will be closely following is the European Product Act, which will bring together the New Legislative Framework, Market Surveillance Regulation, and the Standardisation Regulation. Earlier this year, CEN and CENELEC responded to the Call for Evidence on the revision of the Standardization Regulation, sharing our vision on strengthening the European Standardization System and ensuring its continued relevance and resilience.
