Our safety nets are being taken away en masse. When a dangerous project is proposed in your neighborhood, CEQA is often the ONLY avenue that you have to advocate for yourself. Thank you Senator Maria Elena Durazo for standing up for the EJ community’s right to #CEQA!

Our communities aren’t toxic dumping grounds. And CA has an actual housing crisis that needs REAL solutions.

If passed, SB 607 would remove California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) protections that residents have relied on for generations. Proponents of this bill will claim that it will speed up building, but low-income and affordable housing already have exemptions from CEQA. This bill’s new rule undercutting EIRs applies not just to housing, but also to virtually all other projects in California: luxury resorts, power plants, office buildings, shopping centers, freeways, and so on. In this way, SB 607 robs communities of meaningful public participation in what gets built where they live. California is in a housing crisis, and we need real solutions - not a pass for polluters. Prioritizing their claims puts neighborhoods at risk." Last week, we co-hosted a legislative reception with CalNonprofits to help connect legislators with California's nonprofit sector. At this point we all know that state-level connection points are where we can make positive change happen in CA. Thank you to all the legislators who joined us!
