Twin Cities, MN, USA. Librarian & educator, maker of stuff. Professional journalism is worth paying for. (she/her)
Do you intend to share a recipe for this? (Taps foot)

I have a recipe card from my husband’s grandma for a cranberry pudding with a butter sauce which is DELICIOUS — never made it because it includes instructions to steam the thing in a one-pound (presumably metal?) coffee can. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Positive phrasing is important: DO rather than DON’T. (Helpful to remember that the teen brain has some similarities to the toddler brain here!)
Kids do get it, and while they are learning what it is to be in a community space, we can help them practice in a way that respects their agency.

Seventh grade is actually my favorite (and I have taught every age, PK to college).

Update: I have bought boots for Kid #3. Please clap.
(Thankful that they are pretty done growing, because footwear is not an expense I like to skimp on and that was a little bit of a surprise today. But they will have warm dry toes walking home tomorrow, so)

Is there a stainless steel canning kettle in the mix, by chance? My daughter has taken to dyeing things in mine; I just ordered a replacement but would be happier not giving money to that particular big box store.

And make the libraries beholden in any way to the ideas that a billionaire might want to see/not see in the collection? No thank you.
The great gift of a public library is that it is funded by and supports *the public*. Tax dollars in support of broad and open information, with privacy for users.

You can message me if you have questions about how we do the planning process, evaluations, program. Our whole situation is girl-led and it is (every year) harrowing but great. :)

We used one similar to this. www.target.com/p/balancefro...
Pressure mounted (adjustable @ each corner for varied surfaces), steel swing gate w/adult-operable one-handed latch. We used at the top of basement stairs w/wood doorframe. Had no space for kids to build up speed ahead of the gate, though!

A combo you don’t address here is the multiple-last-name household, which for us is “the MyName/HisName family” or simply “MyName/HisName.” Slash instead of hyphen because they’re SEPARATE names, not one hyphenated one.
An excellent public service, this post. 🫡

It is also possible that they are dumb enough not to realize that librarians often have advanced or terminal degrees. But also, yes: we are legion, we are intimidating, and we bring receipts.

It’s so good. SO GOOD.
