Trump is a coward who cannot abide losing. He realizes that Putin is laughing at him and will try to make us forget how he boasted yet failed to influence Russian behavior.

So Trump wants the whole Ukraine situation to go away as fast as possible. He will abandon Ukraine and decree the subject is treasonous to insulate his fractured ego.
