Did you ever play "Fate of the World"? It's a little dated now, but I liked the message that we can fix multiple final crises (climate change, peak oil, poverty etc.). With considered, consistent action. (It also puts you in the role of global crisis czar with no democratic obligations however).

I was surprised when I found out Americans could get 30 year mortgages. You can only get 5 years fixed max in Australia, and the rates and lack of benefits like offsets makes them unattractive vs a variable rate mortgage.
