The #CUSMA review is going to be about tech and AI policy. Canada is a sitting duck, as we don't have coherent policy.

A not-good-but-not-awful outcome would be a deal with only vague US alignment commitments and more talking, like w/ Korea, Malaysia, etc.

There is a reason the Trudeau gov never finished a feminist foreign policy and Carney abandoned it.

Trade lawyers, lobbyists + free-market ideology rule in Ottawa.

A real FFP is incompatible w/ new corporate trade + investment deals w/ UAE, Ecuador, ASEAN, etc.

FFP = better than these deals.

There is significant UAE investment in Canadian fossil fuels and the PM is looking for more $$. As countries pull out of investment treaties—due to the liabilities they create for the climate transition—Canada is going the other direction on #ISDS. Stupid.

Few details here. Most goods available for sale in one province are available in all others already. What does this agreement (wherever it is) improve? But there are potential red flags in the case of unsafe products, energy efficiency stds, etc.
