Looking at my grandfather's recruitment doc, it appears he was destined for the Siberian Expeditionary Force and had some "Motar Cycle" experience.
Motorbikes were used for couriers and recon - and some soldiers rode Canadian-made Indians, like this 1914 model from the Hendee factory in Toronto:
