Rereading this favorite! Aside from enjoying the main characters- a married couple of reporters with an awesome working relationship- it is very timely about how people react to a disaster- avoidance and ignoring until the last possible moment.

5. The Light Years, Elizabeth Jane Howard (and the whole Cazalet series)- approachable epic about an English family during WWII

4. Lucy By the Sea, Elizabeth Strout- account of a fictional writer during the covid19 pandemic. Strout’s characters always feel real to me.

3. Miss Pym Disposes, Josephine Tey- murder at a girls’ school! Also I’ll read anything by Josephine Tey and sadly this means I’ve read all her novels!
