In an amazing bit of luck I picked up a cheap VHS player at a thrift shop that turns out is really good for archiving. All I need now is an s-video capture card and I can begin to archive my near complete, recorded off the TV, in Denver, to VHS tapes, Star Trek Deep Space 9, and Voyager shows.
