Why is America the only country that allows insurance companies to function as the gateway to our health care?

And these for-profit industries are permitted to follow sacred capitalist rules, like shedding those with expensive pre-existing conditions?

There's also the secondary effect that every health care provider needs a large full time administrative staff just to deal with 1000 different policies from 50 or 100 different companies. Most now join huge conglomerates just to manage that. Oh, and "out of network"....
