A "focused authoritarian" government would carefully choose an exemplar enemy to kill (criminal record, jobless, violent ideology) not an ICU nurse who cared for veterans and has never done anything worse than get a parking ticket.

And even though it is true that direct switching between primary electoral competitors does count double in swing terms, even in Labour vs Reform contests, the net movement from Labour to Reform accounts for just one sixth of the total swing, with Labour's other losses alone accounting for more.

It's important to understand this fallacy because voter movements are complex (fascinatingly so).

As the current situation shows, the reality is a little different to a story drawn from aggregate change, particularly in terms of how Labour's vote has fragmented.
