Physical gardening records & the first signs of spring

Physical gardening records & the first signs of spring
Hello dear readers, I write to you from my kitchen desk, where I look out on sun-drenched cedars, a cool breeze blowing through the open window. The past week has been unseasonably warm¹, and I’ve spent much of it pining for real spring, not this false one that gets my hopes up. But if it’s not going to be winter this year², then I think it should just get on with it and fully make the change.

Finding water & first drafts

Hello dear readers, I write to you from the kitchen table, while outside rain thunders down, the heaviest it’s been in a long time. Both cats are perched at the top of the table, soaking in the heat from the vent that sits below, and I have a teacup of decaf¹ earl grey…
Finding water & first drafts
Hello dear readers, I write to you from the kitchen table, while outside rain thunders down, the heaviest it’s been in a long time. Both cats are perched at the top of the table, soaking in the heat from the vent that sits below, and I have a teacup of decaf¹ earl grey in an old china cup. I find it funny that I started this blog with the intention of writing mainly diary-like entries circa 2005, but I seem to contribute to other categories much more than this one.

Celebrating Imbolc in 2026: A note on traditions & expectations
Hello dear readers, Something I’ve been thinking about as Imbolc looms is that I’m never quite sure how to celebrate it. That’s not to say that there aren’t specific, long-standing traditions—more that those traditions haven’t always felt right for me. A little background: I’ve never been all that good at rules, or guidelines for that matter, either. For most of my life, I’ve taken what’s expected of me and twisted it to better suit my needs, and at this point, I’m more than used to looking at what’s expected and cherrypicking what I’m interested in and what I find enjoyable.
