I was a grad student in linguistics and asked everyone in the department to contribute their favorite “untranslatable” word. This was one contribution that has stuck with me for 30+ years. But I’d actually forgotten the word, just remembered the definition.

Beautiful and attractive in any season!
The heat during the build-up makes rivers look so appealing! But nah. Gotta find a shallow, clear, fast-flowing bit of a creek, between some big rocks where the water comes over fast and thin, and go for a soak instead of a swim.

Almost got creamed just now crossing Ashby in a crosswalk at SPA by 2 drivers both so intent on making their right turn that they just weren’t even looking for pedestrians at all.

You could even change the rating from pass/fail to scores. Jobs that involve driving could require higher scores on the driving test. Make a fun, commercially-available practice test version and people who actually practice driving well and learn the laws!

If I were in the video game world, I’d create a videogame specifically for driver license tests. Sell to DMVs. Include all the scenarios that lead to injuries, crashes, etc.

I know BEB has been fighting for this for a long time. I don’t happen to agree with this priority. I do want to see more frequent and cheaper buses, better crossings and sidewalks, and much better maintenance of the Ohlone Greenway and other urban mixed use paths in the east bay.

I personally am not that interested in biking on SPA, as I much prefer the greenway & other quiet side streets with less noise & pollution. But I’d sure love a frequent trolley or a dedicated bus lane up & down the length. The loss of the rapid bus between San Pablo and Oakland is a real bummer.
