Realised that it’s 10 years to the day since my first book was published - a strange old tale set in the 147th century, featuring a giant (but very awkward) hominid protagonist. There’s a lot I’d do differently if I were writing it now, but I had such a great time coming up with so much weird stuff.

An interesting thing I’ve found on my travels in Tasmania - the (thankfully) unoccupied shell of a Textile Cone, a beastie so venomous that it’s also known as the ‘cigarette snail’ (because once it’s stung you you’ve got just enough time to smoke a cigarette before you’re pushing up the daisies).

Found a bunch of sketches I did of the 147th century post-human beasties from my first trilogy, the Amaranthine Spectrum. Had so much fun coming up with these offshoots of humanity and imagining their filthy, chaotic worlds - would love to write another book about them one day

Lovely quote for Immeasurable Heaven just in from the disgustingly multitalented @cmkosemen.bsky.social

Unfinished experimental sketch I did a while back of the Learned Gysemme, from my favourite @aptshadow.bsky.social story, Goblin Autumn

Just sent the new book off to my publisher, and my poor, banged-up old desk is much lighter all of a sudden. Can’t say much about the new one just yet, but I’ve been working on it since 2021 and it’s unrelated to the Immeasurable Heaven. Equally weird, though, possibly even weirder…

Been hanging onto this very nice bottle that my old friend and most excellent SF author @alrobertson.bsky.social sent me a while back, but I’ve finally had some extremely good book news (which hardly ever happens) so it had better be opened. Also, those bananas need eating by the looks of things.

Starting on some illustrated editions of the Immeasurable Heaven for an upcoming giveaway, probably around the middle of next month to coincide with the Australian release.

Fun evening teaching part 2 of my extreme worldbuilding workshop with @rookeryp.bsky.social, this time focussing on essentials like the Kardashev scale, Lindor chocolate balls, & why the horny robots hate the poo moon pirates. Pop along for part 3 if you fancy building an alien world from scratch.

I bought this creature as a birthday present for the child of a friend of mine, purely because when you press its tummy it farts. Brilliant. Problem is it won’t stop. I’ve been walking around town with it in a bag and it just keeps going. Went into a cafe & it got even louder. I love it, might keep

Bought a lovely 18th century print at Bath market this morning of something that I don’t think exists yet, chilling out in the ruins of civilisation millions of years hence

Due to a warehouse problem around launch time, the Immeasurable Heaven won’t be stocked in any Waterstones for the foreseeable future.

I’ve compiled a headache-inducing pile of nice blurbs and would be so grateful if anyone who enjoyed my weird non-human book could reshare.

Thank you!

Apparently the Immeasurable Heaven comes out in Australia next month (fair dinkum), so more random sketches of the inhabitants of Yokkun’s Depth incoming daily to celebrate.

Here’s a bellower (key for a tongue), a tootlebeast & its marvellous sled.

Working on my most frustrating book yet. Thought I’d finished after 3 drafts in 2023, then took it back to the drawing board with a big rewrite in 2024. Now realise I haven’t understood it at all. In 2026 I’ll see that I’ve got it wrong again, and in 2027 I’ll realise it was correct the first time.

Lovely big cloud mountains over my veggie patch this afternoon

Found a sketch I must have done years ago of Scallywag the Cethegrande (from my third book, the Tropic of Eternity) in his fancy translucent armour. I’d forgotten how weird that book was.

Damn fine new bookery from my old pal @starkholborn.bsky.social, luckily my Desert Madness has just cleared up after reading Ten Low

This beastie from my book isn’t quite a dragon, sorry (and would be a little offended if you called him one), but it’s the best I’ve got

Hello! I’m a scifi author published by Gollancz and Solaris. My first series was far future and post-human, and my new book, the Immeasurable Heaven, is set 3 billion years ago in another galaxy and features a completely inhuman cast of characters. Lots of fun to write, working on the next one now.

The Immeasurable Heaven has been out one month today, and I wanted to say a huge thank you for the support & love my weird tale from another galaxy has had so far.
