One Hour Photo

I went to see this at a mid-afternoon matinee and was the only person in the Cineplex. Robin Williams delivered a deeply creepy, and invasive protagonist in a horror film whose themes of seclusion and voyeurism are central. I left that one feeling deeply shook.

The Crow

In high school, we snuck past the box office to get into see it as unsupervised 16 years olds, because it was R rated movie.

Still an all time favorite, and one that holds up well.

Return of the Jedi

I was in elementary school and my dad took me to see it. The scene where Vader descends the shuttle ramp into the Death Star and steps through the fog into a closeup had me so nervous that I sidestepped into the aisle and backed up down the entryway, terrified and transfixed.

I fear it's just the stepping stone for them to lock all the microchip manufacturers into exclusive production deals so they can shut consumers out of computing.

If nobody can buy GPUs or RAM to build PCs or make OEM desktops or laptops, then subscribing to their data centers will become mandatory.

I was lucky enough to see his full live set at a festival in New Orleans a few years ago. His stage presence and charisma were incredible.

In the flow, and building as he played. He drew more and more people until the whole tent filled, and the paths around it were all standing room only.

Have we figured out yet if RFKjr is Famine or Pestilence?, he's making a strong case for either horse.

If someone thinks a system like the ISS runs on can be scaled up to service the data requirements of a large population, they are dumber than dogshit. Basic physics precludes that outcome from being viable.

This thread where a terrestrial HVAC tech tries to wrap their understanding around the ammonia cooling used in space was one of my favorite things to learn.

How does the ISS ammonia cooling loop compare to a ground-based ammonia cooling system?
David Ogden asks, in response to this question, (paraphrased): How does weightlessness affect the pumping ability of the system? Shouldn't the ammonia not know which end is down or up. How would you

Sounds like it's time commit the ultimate Catch-22 and have Ai write your zero tolerance policy. That way when the administration complains, you can tell them that banning the policy would mean they are opposed to the use of Ai.

I consider it the greatest failure of general purpose computing that the basic action of transmitting a file between users is still difficult and constrained.

I used to trick or treat in that neighborhood. Our house was in a smaller older neighborhood across the road.

Be careful of PSLF, the program is designed to screw you. The Department of Education denied forgiveness for 93% of applicants in 2025. Even if you qualify, and always make correct payments on time for the full length of the term, a reviewer will deny your forgiveness right at the finish line.

speaking of "rude 'tude" I bet you can draw a straight line from 90's video game ads to ICE recruitments ads, and it runs right through the center of the gamergate community.

Robert Evans just did a long form podcast on this guy for "Behind the Bastards". I wonder if this article is the result of someone using a bot to scrape his transcript and compile a text piece from it.

Photographing the German army occupiers in Paris was a capital offense. So it is important to note the rhyme of history carrying forward as this refrain starts to come around again.
Looking for the unknown photographer of occupied Paris: The lead that expanded the photo collection
'Photographer Unknown. Paris, 1940-1942' (2/5). In 2020, Le Monde learned about the discovery of 377 photos of Paris under Nazi occupation, at a time when unauthorized photography could lead to the de...
