The prisoner displayed a keen understanding of current events, at one point expressing approval of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s adopting the title secretary of war. He called it “the definitive and right description of the aggression of the United States.”

Now, the judge, Col. Matthew Fitzgerald, just ordered the military not to bring Mr. Bahlul from the prison to the court compound tomorrow.

First he'll hear a motion to quash the testimony from the prisoner's lawyer, Michel Paradis. He'll argue from the annex in DC, sounds like at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

In court now, the Cole case judge has scheduled testimony this week from Ali Hamza al Bahlul, a convict here serving life as a former Al Qaeda propagandist. It's related to whether Mr. Bahlul's past statements can be used at the Cole trial, if the prisoner refuses to testify.

They've had this guy since 2002 but he was held by the C.I.A. for the first years, off the books. He was charged in 2011.

In the Cole case court now: The latest defense bid to get the case dismissed, on personal jurisdiction grounds.
At issue: Was the defendant Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri a privileged or unprivileged belligerent at the time of his capture in 2002. Only unprivileged are subject to trial at the war court.
