Evaluating the role of observational uncertainty in climate impact assessments: Temperature-driven yellow fever risk in South America
Global gridded temperature data sets (GGTDs) differ in data sources, quality control, generation methods, and spatial-temporal resolution, introducing observational uncertainty. This uncertainty is cr...

Earlier this year I spent a week in #Kenya meeting with energy stakeholders to talk about how subseasonal weather forecasts can support energy planning in #Kenya, and their transition to 100% renewables.

See the @ncas-uk.bsky.social news story linked below for more information about the project!

New paper published!

"Tropical cyclone induced compound flooding in Madagascar: a coupled modeling approach"

In this paper we develop a high-res compound flood model over #Madagascar, and use it to explore the flooding associated with Tropical Cyclone Batsirai.

Tropical cyclone induced compound flooding in Madagascar: a coupled modeling approach - Natural Hazards
Compound flooding occurs when multiple contributing factors, such as oceanic (storm surge, tide, and waves) and continental (heavy rainfall and river discharge), combine to exacerbate flood impacts. T...

Absolutely chucking it down in #Nairobi - and the FASTA app agrees!

And yes, yes I went and stood in the heavy rain to try and get photos and videos of the #longrains to use in presentations.

Finishing the week in #Kenya at ICPAC - great to catch up with colleagues there and hear about the work they are doing.
And to complete a week on renewable energy we even had a look at their solar panels!

New paper published!

Wet season onset is really important for farmers in West Africa, but can sub-seasonal forecasts be used to produce onset forecasts to support decision making?

Here we explore the skill of S2S forecasts in forecasting onset over Ghana.

Great poster session with the Climate Futures students today, where they presented their posters on their group research projects. There were some great posters looking at the climate impacts of seagrass, reducing aviation, painting buildings white, and aerosols.

We even had vegan mince pies!

At the Senedd today at a World Climate Simulation ‘mock COP’ event for local school students, ahead of #COP28.
There were keynotes from British Council Wales, WCIA and Julie James MS, and a short talk from me on the science of climate change, before the students got stuck into the negotiations!
