Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls, part of an international campaign to stamp out male violence against women.
November 25, 2025 at 10:32 AM
Despite making up half the population, women remain underrepresented at the entry level of the government.

The UK has never had a Parliament that is truly 50:50. We’re currently at 40%, so we’ve still got some way to go.

Today, I asked the Prime Minister if he would back a smartphone ban in schools.

Given the Government’s desire to improve educational outcomes and the wellbeing of our children, you’d think it’d be a no brainer.

But, to my deep disappointment, he refused.

Proud to chair a fantastic and thought-provoking roundtable this morning on smartphones at schools.

I hope the Government will listen to the headteachers and educational experts and bring in a ban that is sorely needed.

The Liberal Democrats welcomed much of what was discussed at the UK/EU Summit last May. But words can only get you so far; it’s time to see concrete action.

But, as I said on BBC Radio 5 Live today, we need a Government that is focused on sorting out the serious problems we’ve got in the country, spend less time naval gazing and more time getting on with the job of government.

It’s terrifying that children today could come across extreme pornography, graphic violence, or prostitution online.

The Government must act and I eagerly await their Violence Against Women & Girls Strategy.

Today, I asked the North Africa Minister if the Government would increase the UK’s development aid budget to fund our response to the crisis occurring in Sudan.

Proud to vote against Farage’s Bill in Parliament today to withdraw the UK from the ECHR.

His vision for Britain, founded upon division, which would turn us into Trump’s America, is fundamentally against the values we all hold dear.

We stopped him today and must continue to do so going forward.

Today, I asked the Middle East Minister about his message to the people of Gaza who are hungry, thirsty, living in makeshift camps, and are in desperate need of humanitarian relief and medical assistance.

I’m thrilled to have been asked by Ed to take up a new spokesperson role for the Liberal Democrats – focusing on Schools.

Pleased to show my support for the #CANBill at the Lib Dem conference's first dedicated climate and nature day.

Painstaking international diplomacy is not working fast enough. Last week I called for the government to take the action it should have taken long ago: sweeping trade sanctions, sanctions on Netanyahu and his entire Cabinet, and a commitment to recognise Palestine without conditions.

Home Office planning to halve time asylum seekers given to find accommodation
28 days to find a job and somewhere to live. Who comes up with this nonsense? Stop pandering to Farage’s nonsense!

Our message to the Health Secretary is clear: make this process fully transparent and consult affected communities before any cuts take place.

Proud to co-sign a letter calling for this. 👇

I fear that without these exceptions pharmacy closures will become even more common than they already are. As you can hear in the report, the Minister gave a positive response to my question on this recently. I’ll continue pushing for his words to turn into action.

Happy 77th Birthday to our NHS 🎉

Thank you to all the incredible healthcare workers across South Devon who do such an amazing job in often difficult circumstances.

We’ve made great progress in the last 97 years, but there’s still plenty to do! I look forward to supporting Centenary Action’s aim to reach a gender equal parliament by 2028.

Proud to have co-signed this letter to the Health Minister regarding funding for Torbay Hospital.

While £7.3 million was recently allocated via the Estates Safety Fund, this won’t come close to dealing with the issues the Hospital faces.

Did you know England and Wales have among the most severe punishments for illegal abortion in the world? I’m proud to have co-signed an amendment to the Crime and Policing bill that would bring us into line with Northern Ireland, France and others, and protect women from criminalisation.

Pleased to contribute the below article to Fishing News about the different veterinary agreements available to the UK with the EU. With the UK/EU Summit coming next week, the time has come for action to slash the red tape our fishers face day in, day out.
