I pointed this out and suggested another option for them was to simply to take the "win". Which went about as well as expected. One of them actually said: 'We are allowed to be happy about this decision and discuss it as much as we want, in any way we choose and to gloat as much as we wish.'

Even more worrying, I saw people today who were *for* the decision and still expressing upset and outrage over how it was worded. They got exactly what they wanted, but still weren't happy about it being communicated in a way which showed empathy and compassion for those directly affected.
