I disagree with your friend a smidge. It's got abstract (and grotesque) Christian symbolism, but I think that's as far as the similarity and visuals go? I dont know much of DS, but from what I do understand, it actually does have intent and purpose. The director of AE has said this movie has neither

It's beautifully made, but it gives u very little to work with. The symbolism is vague, tho u have tiny clues that it's about faith or lack thereof. But even then it's so *barely there* that it could be anything.
It's a movie that shows a *feeling* of loss of faith w/o making it the plot in any way.

Idk about SO good, it's good in the sense experiencing art in museums can be good. It's explorative in its imagery, and it forces you to use imagination to fill in what the purpose of it all is. You get no answers. It's a very slow movie, and scenes linger on stillness to a degree it tests patience.
