Me and some friends from #demsocs organised a 'dotocratic' intervention at the South London #yourparty founding assembly on Sunday. It was a lot of fun for everybody and introduced some badly needed democracy to the event. I wrote a report on the results […]

Looking forward to Lennart Augustsson explaining how these fun features of Epic Games new functional logic language Verse will make coding Unreal engine games easier. Not entirely convinced yet that he will... but it sure is interesting... #lambdaworld

This is more or less the anti-clockwise circular route that I hiked out of #grazalema. More or less because several of the paths didn't actually exist and I ended up cutting through brush and up/down mountain sides instead. Gambling on which goat trails […]

The weather above #grazalema was variable. The clouds kept rolling up from the south and breaking over my head so I never got the promised view of Gibraltar or Morocco. However the first picture here was a nice view south east from the Simancón peak towards […]

I stopped off in #grazalema for a couple of nights before #lambdaworld to explore. The first day I set out to climb Mt Simancón (1,569 m - 2nd highest peak in the area) on a circular route above the white village. In these two shots shortly after the first […]

Californian Entrepeneur Anurag Mendhekar giving a very upbeat keynote on AI coding tools continuing to greatly improve at #lambdaworld presaged on the axiom that, "no tool ever gets worse". And yet my experience is that even before enshittification many tools […]

Very low key shoutout for #smithy4s by JP Morgan director Jack Higgs during first day #lambaworld keynote. Later elaborates that meta-programming, complex domain logic and safe concurrency are just about the only viable use-cases left for functional programming languages in large businesses.

I'd like to apologise for upsetting this gentleman. I hope he gets his increase in unemployment support.

We need to show solidarity with people who are suffering even when they lash out. It's a precondition for organising against a system designed to […]

Other people saw snakes every day on the #karnischehohenweg⁩ - curled up they were brown like cow pats. There were a lot of cows, so maybe I dodged messing my boot in a snake pile without realising.

Late flight and thunderstorms mean I'm drinking negronis […]

The weather forecasts for my #karnischehohenweg⁩ were terrible. Rain the entire time. Thunderstorms 3 out of 8 days. In the end I had rain 3 days (only once was bone chilling and all day) and thunderstorms only that once time yesterday. I'd take that over a […]

On reflection any multi-day hike is as exactly as easy or hard as you force into each day. The #karnischehohenweg⁩ is described as an 8-11 day hike and doing it in 8 days was a tough challenge for everyone I met doing it. The main danger was exhaustion in the […]

It took several days on the #karnischehohenweg⁩ for me to start thinking the foot high stones every 200m or so most likely demarcated the literal border. I was initially disappointed that every single one was labelled "1920". I now suspect this is related to […]

During the #karnischehohenweg⁩ I very bravely let my phone install a system update. The only noticeable new feature was a force annotated camera mode. Now when I open the camera it overlays incredibly useful and life affirming text like, "grass", "sky", or […]

#karnischehohenweg⁩ finished (yesterday). Day8 was largely a hair raising traversal of mountain pastures and lakes in a thunderstorm followed by strenuous 800m near vertical descent through forest in a rainstorm. Finally recovered enough to post while waiting […]

Day7 of the ⁨#karnischehohenweg⁩ and on top of the penultimate last up. It's all downhill until Italian cooking. They know I'm running late and it's okay.

Day6 of the ⁨#karnischehohenweg⁩ and words largely fail me. Especially every last word of german except, "ein johannisbeersaft bitte". I can barely hold it together. I considered quitting after day4, a devastating day i had to start at 06:00 without breakfast […]

#karnischehohenweg⁩ only gives me internet when i'm the top of mountains. this is köderkopf (2167m). only half way thru todays hike. I'll need to hustle if i want to finish in time for dinner.

Day5 of the ⁨#karnischehohenweg⁩ - too much walking to do decent post! too much yesterday, too much today.

Day3 of the ⁨#karnischehohenweg⁩ - some decent weather! some decent views!

One entertaining part of the #karnischehohenweg⁩ is frequent telco SMS pings about crossing the border even as the actual path is right on the border for large stretches. Yesterday I got 8 pings, today only 4. There are WW1 emplacements along the border but […]

Day2 of the ⁨#karnischehohenweg⁩ was very very wet. The forecast was very heavy rain until midday and I decided not to wait. Luckily once into the clouds above 2500m it was more of a drizzle than a downpour. And even though it was windy it never got that cold […]

Day1 of the ⁨#karnischehohenweg⁩ was a tough start and its not even the hardest day. A 1200m climb from the valley was followed by 800m more climbing along ridgelines to Obstanserhütte. 16k walk in total. Nasty rain was forecast but I managed to dodge about […]

This video is a beautiful demonstration of defiance against genocidal tyranny. Our governments in Europe and America are committed to that genocide in #gaza but they are weak, corrupt and lazy. There is still time to resist.

When #ldx3 had a talk on why the performance curve (stack ranking) is bad i had to go see how advanced the thinking was. spoiler: not very.. but worthy nevertheless.

Why do employers do this practice that is inefficient and counter-productive? "FOMO" […]

Surprisingly anti-work management software, anti-dashboards stance from this speaker from an outsourcing company at #ldx3 this morning. I wonder what the overlap is between LLM agent effective spend tools and employee surveillance tools.
