Worse because 1 year from now will be just after midterms. If you were smart offer about a 10 month extension and remind voters in 2026 how much the GOP hates them. Or demand a 4 year extension and take the problem off the table for the rest of the admin.

The funny thing is I think this is actually backwards. Whenever you put single issues to a referendum the left’s side will often pass even in red states (eg abortion and guaranteed paid leave in Missouri 2024). It’s the right constantly sowing division, racism, etc in order to pass their policy.

It doesn’t matter anyway without a party apparatus for enforcing discipline if a member votes against the platform. I care about what individual politicians say.

I distinctly remember a crazy person on SA arguing they were for making carefully shaped and weighted sling bullets despite having essentially no evidence.

Frankly if we’re amending the constitution, then the best play is to change to a unicameral parliament, get rid of the president entirely (or leave as a purely ceremonial head of state) and mandate a prime minister and snap elections if a budget is unable to be passed.
