I don’t relish seeing anyone shot. It’s horrible.

But spare me the calls for empathy for a man who built a career railing against empathy.

Absolutely thrilled to win the 2025 Distinguished Article Award from ASA Sexualities alongside these amazing scholars!

Check out the article, "'I Didn’t Know Ace Was a Thing': Bisexuality and pansexuality as identity pathways in asexual identity formation.” Link below.

Our research won the @asanews.bsky.social Sexualities
Distinguished Article Award!

In this article, we examine the relationships between bisexuality and asexuality.

We find that half of asexual folks previously identified as bisexual or pansexual.

And many continue IDing as bi/pan AND ace.

Recruitment is still open!

Help us by participating in a survey about attraction and intimate relationships.

All are welcome, but we’re especially low on heterosexual responses.

Please share widely!

My article on gender detachment is published in @sociusjournal.bsky.social!

We often assume that everyone has a gender.

But some people feel detached from gender.

Based on 30 interviews with asexual individuals, I argue that gender categorization is compulsory--but it doesn't need to be.

I study asexuality for a living. But sometimes I find that fiction can reveal things research can't.

"Portalmania," a new story collection by Debbie Urbanski, offers thought-provoking—and sometimes disturbing—reflections on being asexual in a sea of compulsory sexuality.

🚨New article!

Does sex positivity enable the freedom NOT to be sexual?

In my latest research in the Journal of Positive Sexuality, I argue that sex positive frameworks haven't adequately considered this.

But asexual perspectives strengthen sex positive approaches.

And then JK Rowling came for the asexuals…

Rowling is a well-known transphobe.

So her attack on asexuality isn’t surprising: there’s an established connection between anti-trans and anti-asexual attitudes.

Good news!

My article on asexual and aromantic men was a “Top 10 Cited Article” published by Sociology Compass in 2023!

My research on the Split Attraction Model is a “trending” and “most read” article in Social Currents!

I argue that sexual orientation ≠ romantic orientation.

Asexuality shows us that romantic and sexual attraction can be unlinked.

Are you asexual, 55+, and have participated in BDSM or Leather subculture?

Here’s a chance to participate in an exciting project from a UChicago masters student.

Excited to present on Asexuality and Health at UC Irvine's School of Medicine today!

Many asexual people have negative experiences with health care providers.

And like many other LGBTQIA+ groups, asexuality is often delegitimized through pathologizing frameworks.

We can—and must—do better.
