Don’t make a meal like this right out the gate. Make it fun and flavorful. If you’re unsure about others restrictions, ask them first and meet half way or ask them to supply their own food for the holiday feasts and ask others not to touch it.

If you’re not big on ham or pork, look for turkey bacon to add to your dishes. If you’re not big on meats and poultries, trade it out with baked, herbed fish instead. I could go on, about all the alternatives and the fact you could still jazz it up a bit with herbs, spices and flavor, but still,

If you have intolerances to milk and grains, you can forgo the pastas and stuffings and do herbed rice with a reduction of olive oil, herbs, spices, mirepoix and citrus, and caramelized onions, peppers, garlic, carrots, celery and add it in to your steamed rice to make a rice stuffing alternative.

Instead of the candied yams with marshmallows, you could do honeyed yams, agave spiced yams, or go the more natural route and do apple spiced yams (yams with homemade sugar free full spice apple butter, walnuts and a light drizzle of a honey, maple, cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and lemon sauce).

there is no reason to skip the seasonings. If you have diabetes, there are healthier alternatives to the sugar and brown sugar that won’t spike your blood sugar astronomically.

The point being, is that unless you’re on a bland foods diet (which none of this, from my knowledge of the bland foods diet, is is even allowed on the diet (the only things really permitted are plain rice, unseasoned and unbuttered poultries and fish, and plain pasta) and that’s solely if you had a

Exactly. They have a friggin’ Guitar Hero/Band Hero copycat for Pete’s Sakes. They could do them for that. And the other non-musical events could be held in the Lego Version.

Jeez, those are the biggest b**ch to deal with. I wish you luck in your recovery.

-Lastly, keep in mind that gifts, as well as wants, are a luxury in itself. Not everyone is entitled to haggle the price down if you can not afford it. Plus, not everyone is going to use the gifts you give them (trust me, I’ve seen a fair share of gifts be shipped off to thrift stores and the likes)

-If you’re more into online shopping, support artisans, small online businesses and other creatives online. You may find they have what you need.
-most importantly, support black, native and indigenous small businesses (they have a lot of cute gifts and art pieces that are more than well worth it)

-Keep in mind that not every gift you get someone has to be cheap or expensive, that not everyone is going to appreciate or is worth giving a gift for, and not everyone gift needs to be bought. Simpler is better when on a budget.

-If you really need to go to a department store, do your research on what ones are the best in terms of deals and prices if you’re on a budget.
(Believe me when I say this, but Walmart and Target aren’t worth the hassle because they’re upselling a cheap quality product for their typical prices.)

-local consignment shops are also another good option as well, given the clothes and materials there are on higher discount and quality than department stores.

- if you really want to hand make a gift for someone, check out local thrift stores to pick up some clothing to clean up and beautify in to something more special and from the heart. Plus, you may find some good art and crafts supplies in the process too! And the quality of older pieces is better.
