You probably would have been warm and lovely but (if you're anything like me) would have laid awake that night worrying that you'd tipped into cringe.

I think you'd have regretted it if you spoke and regretted it if you hadn't. No right choice in that situation, just regret.

A truly near-perfect movie. Spoiled for choice, but these 2 mins are a breathtaking skip through so many emotional beats. I'm never not crushed by Connery's line of 'you left just as you were getting interesting'.

It's a great exhibit - really worth the visit. These sculptures were stop-you-in-your tracks arresting. (They became even more incredible when you learn they were commissioned by a British tabloid newspaper and they still decorate their offices.)

There's also a room devoted to her at The Tate Modern's exhibition on Nigerian modernism. I went with friends who had a family connection to her - everyone was pleased she was given that recognition and space.

How the school group didn’t stumble on the display case full of phalluses was remarkable.

I usually use the awake time to read. Try to put a positive spin on it by counting all the books I get through. But I still think I’d rather sleep.

Oh, not at ALL. That suggestion is only half a step more sophisticated than ‘have you tried relaxing?’ Or ‘have you tried going back to sleep?’
November 22, 2025 at 11:20 AM
Quite. Not sleeping is literally the worst.
(On the bad nights I time my words with my breathing to slow my mind down a bit. I hope your mind/body find a calming connection it likes.)

I’ve had to move through the alphabet some nights when my word supply ran low, but it’s cutting my awake time down from 2-3 hours to 1 or 2 20-min spells. (As well as given me some trippy dreams, like the tube carriage full of items starting w the letter D.)

Good luck out there.

2) Name any word that starts with this letter. No categories or links btwn them, just random words. And…just keep going.
3) Fall to sleep

The random list is key. You’re giving your brain something (apart from worries) to think about while lighting up the random patterning your brain does in REM

Good Christmas music (ie, the album you put on yourself) is glorious. A treat made sweeter by the short window of playtime. Bad Christmas music (ie, Mariah Carrey when someone is getting snarky w you at the tills) is soul crushing.
