But IMO the world hasn’t been made any better by half-built products looking for quick exits and requiring constant data collection in order to run their A/B tests

Millions of people "choose" opioids and amphetamines for a wide range of purposes, some we consider valid and others we do not.
Many technologies are very useful for narrow purposes, but destructive when usage is unregulated.
And we recognize rampant choice to use them as a *negative* signal.
