Also, Rubio is very keen to preempt European criticism of the large illegal military action the US appears to be about to launch against Venezuela.
The Maduro regime is illegitimate, corrupt and brutally authoritarian, but that does not justifies air strikes or invasion.

Surely that should be "previously transported oil for Shell, Chevron and other Western shareholders".

To be fair the EU hasn't exactly covered itself in glory here either. If ever there was a case for showing flexibility to achieve the greater goal this was it.
