Sorry Soph, I’m getting Hambye and La Lucerne confused! The abbot restored La Lucerne and the abbey buildings (not the abbey itself) at Hambye are a brilliant display which again we’ve watched develop over 25 years!

Either way it’s most unusual. I don’t remember seeing the crenellated decoration before and the carved face on just one side suggests it was designed to be seen from a specific direction. Bet the fire extinguishers know what it is and are just playing dumb… typically uncooperative…

Oh yes, often! We’ve followed the reconstruction/restoration for 25 years. Agreed, the use of concrete was regrettable but the extraordinary abbot’s determination to rebuild the ruin was remarkable. Also near us is Hambye which is another remarkable abbey. Come to Normandy and I’ll show it to you!
