But is he going to clarify the implications of the (incoherent) idea that we should read the famproc’s gender as sex at birth, but also “binary creation is essential to salvation?” Are they going to explain whence intersex people and why they do not sin while trans people do? Don’t count on it.

Or the clarification actually makes things worse, as with Oaks’ statement that the Church has always believed gender and sex assigned at birth are synonymous. Unless he’s tacitly suggesting that intersex individuals were premortally intersex, but I would bet a large sum that he isn’t.

He also advised me to "think back to my childhood" when I knew I was a boy and wasn't confused, implied that most of the counselors at my university were woke and I needed to talk to one of the good ones, and ended our visit with "You know you're a man, and I know you're a man, and God knows too."

My family doctor I had been seeing for about eight years reacted to me coming out to him and asking about HRT by saying "Look, I have patients on HRT and I try to stick to the science, but..."

He then hit every talking point in the book. "They're lonely depressed people so they recruit others," etc

It doesn’t, but when every official pronouncement on gender amounts to “trans people have been confused by Satan” and they forbid transitioning and won’t take a stance on pronouns at all, it’s not hard for church members to fill in the blanks.

It’s ingenious, really. Leave members to fill in the blanks for themselves and be transphobic bigots by refusing to actually condemn transphobia, but when pressed on doctrine, they can throw their hands in the air and say “we’re just little guys with certain beliefs about gender!”
