I love these old Buddhist stories of enlightenment. They’re always like:
A monk asked his master, “Master, what is enlightenment?”
The master then farted.
The monk bowed deeply.

Can’t figure out the problem with my van Barry, so she’s on hiatus.

I’m officially that douchy beekeeper who drives a Prius. Her name is Heidi. A 2008 with low miles, almost old enough to drink. I just hit 30,000 miles on her. I hope she lasts a while. I now know she holds at least 12 honey supers

Mixing up some nutrition for the bees today. Global pollen with Apis Biologix, and some 1:1 syrup since it’s in the 70’s every day this next week. Found these totes for $20 at Home Depot and they perfectly fit 10 25lb bags of sugar, so I’m stoked about it.
Happy bee’ing! #beekeeping

Boxes are together! Still need about 15 more nucs for 2026, but these should buy some time. Lots of painting to do.
Happy bee’ing 🐝

Nobody in America is safe. If Trump’s secret police force will execute a government employed VA nurse on camera for us all to see and then lie about it, then they won’t hesitate to kill you next and lie about you.

This is fascism. They are Nazis.

As a beekeeper who relies on bees to make ends meet, it can be tough for me to bring up politics. My field is mostly dominated by “good ole boys” who have a different worldview than me. I used to be able to get along just fine with these folks. I am from South Texas. This is all very hard for me.

I don’t think I’ll be working outside today 🤦🏻‍♂️

Cutting Reflectix for the hives before this winter storm hits. Very grateful for my wife’s help. She got a little mad at me for calling her a nerd for wearing her #Kakashi t-shirt!

I had never owned mini mating nucs like these before. My wife and I agreed that they’re super cute. They look like Fisher Price toys. #bees #hachi

Barry the Sienna van is loaded with #bee stuff! Many more loads to go before the season kicks off! Gonna need to grow a pair this year. Failure is not an option.

It’s all bad news, but for some reason when I hear it from DarkMatter2525, it gives me hope. He just has the ability to put things into words in a way that I am not capable of.

Listening to more Epictetus.

“When you found fault with a person, did you not come off as a trifling babbler?”

“Trifling babbler” has to be the best description of anyone I have heard today.

Sadly, all of these frames are just enough to take care 15 8-frame Langstroth hives with a brood chamber and honey super each. I only ordered 1/2 of what I need this year. I’ll order the rest in a couple of months. 😑

This is the first time I have seen: 1) sunflowers blooming in January and 2) yesterday I saw a honey bee drone. We normally don’t start seeing them until March.
This is absurd.
I am thinking if I don’t get my sh*t together soon, my bees are gonna swarm on my in February.

Just thinking about the fact that I pay more in federal taxes in one year than what I spent on my vehicle which I have driven for 7 years. By the time sales tax, county tax, vehicle registration etc are done with me, it feels similar to the “communism” they complain about, minus the benefits.

Being humbled by beekeepers with (much) more experience. Made me take a couple steps back! I forget sometimes to just zip it and listen. 👂

I think I would prefer to invest money into a bigger garage instead of a nicer, newer vehicle that isn’t a hooptie. I have to fix our vehicles in the driveway in front of our house, and put on a show for the neighborhood. To have privacy would be more valuable to me than a nice vehicle.

Went to visit the in laws yesterday for a late XMass, and they opened a Book Off in Houston! Right next to the Seiwa where we found #Naruto sodas! Maybe they sold out of Sasuke Kun’s, idk but had to pick up Naruto and Sakura-chan’s.

As they say, “EIGHTIETH times a charm!”
It took me 6 days to fix a sensor on my van because I ripped the wires doing spark plugs and ignition coils. Anyone familiar with a 2gr-fe knows my pain.
I went through every emotion. 🤦🏻‍♂️ so happy to have Barry back in business. She’s crucial to my work.
