On any other Thursday in October
Are you naked
behind those dreams;
Waiting for no one
to come inside and
dismantle your reflection
Are you safe
behind the painted window frame?
warping in the memory
of raindrops
taking their last breaths
against the memory of your own
Are you singing
underneath your whispering words;
“Let me out,
Let me be. Let me be free”
This pane has seen the seasons
fighting for its turn,
darkened by days of drooping eyes
observing quietly in apathy.
Are you silent
for the things you wish you said?
Will you let the weeping willows
have their dances in your stead?

I just remembered all these poetry/art promo thingies I made for my Facebook audience back when I considered myself more of a writer than a composer. I'll start sharing them here periodically, starting with this one which is relevant to my current state.

Depression is not sadness.
It is nothing.
it is acceptance,
in all the worst ways.

Depression is the
trash lining the halls
beside the dirty laundry.

counting every breath,
not entirely anticipating the next.

it’s mixing desires
with needs, and
passions dying to passivity.

Depression is soiled bedsheets
stained with days that felt like hours
and hours that felt like weeks,

Waiting for emotion.

Depression is
feigning happiness,
and feeling guilty for believing it.

it is all you are
until it passes.

I lost a friend today. He was nearly 20 years old and we've been through a lot together. I've never cried so hard in my life. I am not okay. RIP Burke. You were the best.
