The contrast with Derry, where the concentration from 1993 until now has changed very little. It showed signs of a shift in 2011 but is back effectively where it was.

Are you even really a coach if you don't have a planner with the new arc drawn in it?

These proved far more popular last year than I'd imagined. So here's the 2025 version. Available from Amazon (below) or via DM

Shane Lennon will be the first ever outside manager of Crossmaglen Rangers.

Louth’s former Games Development Officer and ex-player will be assisted by former Dublin minor Gerry Seaver, who was with Longford minors this year.

They take over from Anthony Cunningham.

🏐 Line Umpires

- Linesmen (now apparently called line umpires) will have powers to help referees call a free in open play, which is huge
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Pitch markings
- New 40m arc and dashed halfway line right across, with 65s remaining on pitches used for hurling

🏐 Clock and hooter
- Used where available, probably won’t be in operation at too many club games barring maybe latter stages of championship
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Captain

- Only the captain can speak to the referee 🏉
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Dissent

- 50m penalty for dissent towards the referee

- Dissent from the sideline also counts, refs can give 13m free for abuse from coaches

- At underage, 50m penalty comes with a black card as well
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Advantage

- Becomes not quite indefinite, but more at the ref’s discretion and not limited to 5 seconds

- If a player is fouled a second time during an advantage, free is now where the second foul occurs

🏐 Fouls
- Third man in to a melee gets a black card
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Black card

- Great change this, allows referees to black card where there’s a clear cynical foul but the player isn’t actually dragged down as is required in the current rule. Player can now be black carded even if he holds his opponent up
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Solo & Go

- Take quick free by soloing to yourself and playing on

- If the player in possession is tackled within 4 metres of solo & go, 50m penalty

- Can be taken anywhere other than inside the 13’, could lead to quick frees that lead to goals

- Can’t go backwards
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Delay fouling

- 50m penalty for delaying the taking of a free

- Attacking team can choose to kick the free from the edge of 40m arc for two points, even if 50m penalty would take the position into the arc

- Klaxon: shouting at a free taker could sting you 50m as well
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Scoring

- Introduction of a two-point score from outside the new 40m arc

- No more four-point goals, that one’s gone

- Orange flag for two-pointers, without need for a white flag to be waved first

- Ref put two hands up to signal two-pointer
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Advanced mark

- Big change from the existing rule. No more crappy 20m dinked kicks for a mark.

- Kick from outside 45’, catch inside 21’ to count as an advanced mark

- Advantage on attacking mark pretty much indefinite. Play on, go for goal, miss, comes back for free anyway
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 3v3

- Teams must keep at least three players in the opposition half of the field at all times

- If it’s deemed an accidental breach in contest for the ball, free on halfway

- For everything else, Mastercard takes the free to the 13’
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Goalkeeper

- Outlaws pretty much any backpass inside the goalkeeper’s own half of the field

- In layman’s terms, the only time he can be given the ball by a defender is if a ball breaks in the square and the defender, also inside big square, shovels it to him
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 Kickouts

- Broken into 8 parts

- Main theme is the introduction of the 40m arc, beyond which kickouts must travel before a defender can touch the ball

- If keeper isn’t taking it, he has to stay in his small square
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
🏐 1v1 throw-in

- A lot of what it says on the tin. Throw-ins 1v1, other midfielder stands on the sideline
November 27, 2024 at 8:45 PM
📑 Enabling motion

- Confirms that rules are on a one-year trial basis.

- Allows Central Council to amend or rescind any rules during the trial year if necessary

- rules cannot be deferred beyond March 31, 2025, which I’m taking as confirmation they will be in for club next yr

Not sure why the #GAA hasn’t published this document as yet. As a public service, I’ll do it for them. Thread below on the rules that are being proposed at Special Congress on Saturday and a bit about what each means. You can pay me via Revolut or any major banking app 🧵😄

Since 1993, Tyrone clubs have won 27 games in the Ulster Club SFC.

17 of those have been Errigal Ciaran wins (not 16, forgot about their nomination to represent Tyrone in 1995).

The Tyrone champions have failed to win the first round game 15 times in 31 seasons #GAA

In 15 seasons, Chrissy McKaigue missed just two championship games, one of which he was rested for. He was only ever taken off once and played all bar 200 minutes of championship football (minus his time in Oz) since his debut in 2008
