The calendar year may be ending, but for the Church, today is the beginning of the year.

Advent is a time of looking ahead as we prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ. But, it's not about passive waiting. It's a time to be good neighbours. Our first reflection. ⤵️

Today is the start of Advent. 📅 It is time for us to be good neighbours to one another and to build a better world. 🙏

We prepare to celebrate the birth of Christ, and we wait in hope and expectation for the day when he will come again.

The Vehicle of Hope has been revealed, a former Popemobile rebuilt to reach children in Gaza.

The hope is that it will soon be serving families in Gaza. Israeli restrictions mean that millions of pounds worth of supplies remain out of reach for families.

In yesterday's Angelus, Pope Leo XIV expressed his sadness following recent kidnappings in Nigeria and Cameroon.

In addition to calling for the release of all hostages, he also encouraged us all to pray for the church and school communities that have been affected. 🙏

#COP30 has drawn to a close in Brazil with a final deal known as the Mutirão.

Our Climate Change Policy Lead, Liz Cronin, was there and has reacted to the outcome.

It's International Children's Day. Peru is a country exposed to natural disasters like earthquakes and flooding. Our local partner CIDAP is working with schools in northern Lima to help young people be better prepared for disasters.

One year on from the government’s promise that the UK would never forget Sudan, does the action match the ambition?

See what the Independent Commission for Aid Impact (ICAI) found. 👉

Programmes have expanded to include medical and psychosocial support for survivors of sexual violence. The UK has shown leadership through Security Council engagement, diplomacy and awareness-raising, including hosting the London Sudan Conference. The Bad - Sudan is not explicitly identified as a cross-government priority, and gets little attention outside the Foreign Office. - Funding is unpredictable, restricting long-term planning. - Complex processes make it hard for Sudanese organisations to access funding. - The UK chose not to pursue a more ambitious approach to protecting civilians, including from sexual violence. - Ministers haven't given Sudan the sustained attention it needs." The Future - Here's what we need the government to do: - Sustain political attention on the crisis, coordinating across government departments. - Align strategy across Sudan and neighbouring countries through a clear, regional approach. - Commit to protected, multi-year funding that matches the scale of need in Sudan. - Support localisation by simplifying processes and increasing direct funding. - Increase targeted programming for women and girls.
