Yeah but the silver lining is Zhongtao's plight at least made everyone else hyper-aware of these anti tactics. A few other ships too of course but Zhongtao was the main one back then.

True. Antis are like "skeptics" under ghost videos. The vast majority of us know its fake and tbh I dont want ghosts to be real anyway.
But going under the comments and saying "This is so fake" doesnt make you seem smart it makes you look like an A hole ruining everyone else's fun and imagination.

Proshippers on the other hand have always been consistent. Which is in the idea they believe in the concept of allowing people to ship whatever they want and thats all. Even that which they may not personally like.

Reason I bring this up is I can vouch for your statement. Antis are ever changing. They have to be for the outrage culture I spoke of earlier. They HAVE to continue making up new problems or they lose relevancy, or worse, turn on themselves causing infighting.

Like I said in another comment I was an anti myself somewhere around 2016 give or take. Grew out of it and became more of a ship and let ship kinda guy. (Going somewhere with this dw)

The Anti movement has always leaned on outrage and anger, however. Always finding the next "villain" and never knowing peace. Even to the extent of eating themselves. Now that we have lesser problems then ever, they have to up the ante to remain relevant I suppose.

I think thats a consequence of the apathy towards human life that has become so normalized in modern day. Before when if an Anti even dared to make a death threat even their fellow antis would turn on them. Now its encouraged.

I think its a problem that people threw real world activism into it. Cause shipping and activism simply do not mix and it hurts the movement more to try and make them

Yup. I was there when that happened too. Been with that fandom from its beginning up until Fontaine and now that ive left and taken a step back to breathe and have time to think on it, ive realized toxicity in fandoms are a given. But this is something different.

I was an Anti around the same time too. And yeah even at our worst we never threw around death threats and the like. Even in our most bitter moments we still had some level of understanding of how far was too far.

I dont play that game anymore nor care for its ships, but moral of the story is you are free to do whatever you want. Lie about whatever you want. But dont be surprised if one day that lie comes back to haunt you.

So yes. You are 100% correct. Antis at some point definitely knew they were lying. But after so long of lying to themselves and others some began to believe its really true. Nor did they care until it started affecting ships THEY liked. Karma sure is a b*tch aint it? (7/7)

It doesnt work as much anymore because people figured out their tactics but the damage is already done to older ships in that fandom. And many people to this day dont know so the harassment of that ship and those like it continues. (6/7)

This is what popularized the method of using headcanons and treating them as canon to take down another ship that we see used on other ships within this and other fandoms. This is where it more or less started (At least in this particular fandom). (5/7)

This lead to harassment galore and effectively destroyed ZhongTao in the West (Its still quite popular in the East). Western Shippers never actually went anywhere they just became quiet about shipping it but the effect was the same. (4/7)

It got so bad at one point that the gaslighting lead to even your average joe believing it was canon because GI players arent known to actually read their own stories so they wouldnt know its false. (3/7)

Have you ever heard of a ship called ZhongTao from Genshin? Back in GI's early days There was a headcanon going around that they were "like father and daughter" and antis took advantage of it and pretended it was canon to justify harassing the shippers (2/7)
