Always unlearning. Engineering leader at Redpanda.
I started using AI to write a more serious production system. Copilot was a waste, 3 days lost. Claude Code was a big surprise. Very impressive. It helped me do in 2 days what would have taken me multiple weeks of work.

This one was a fun one.
On Jun 12th, Google Cloud Platform went down — taking a good portion of the internet with it. Meanwhile, Redpanda Cloud clusters in #GCP remained stable — but behind the curtain, things were far from quiet. 👀

Here's a peek at how we handled the outage at Redpanda👇

Behind the scenes: Redpanda Cloud’s response to the GCP outage
On June 12, GCP went down. Here’s how we responded at Redpanda Cloud and what it taught us about safety and reliability.

I thought this Microsoft org chart was a joke, but AKS error messages seem to validate it. #shippingtheorgchart #cloud #azure

I wonder why no-one has written a generic tool to enforce access controls on Linux tools using eBPF. SELinux, AppArmor and other LSMes lack more flexibility.

There should be an @openfeature.dev for notifications, there are so many vendors now.

“We aren’t hired to write code but to solve problems” is even more relevant with AI being around, generating code.

@jeremymorrell.dev, all the observability 2.0 fuzz and wide events has more than one confused, including me. So, are we telling people now that their logging library is enough to instrument?

It seems answering to LinkedIn posts from people can get you bombarded by vendors. Probably not the network to have technical discussions. Lesson learned.

Good index if one wants to understand HTTP3 and QUIC: www.annalytic.com/rfc-collecti.... It seems to be missing some extensions like QUIC Version 2: datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc9369/

Current QUIC implementations:
github.com/quicwg/base-...
The most important RFCs to understand HTTP/3 and QUIC
A non-comprehensive collection of specifications related to HTTP and the underlying security and transport-layer protocols

I hope I live long enough to see Internet RFC standards be replaced by formal specifications. So much of the issues we experience today are rooted in ambiguous and poorly specified Internet RFC standards.
