Spent a lovely Valentine's day with my loves: made Puerto Rican pumpkin fritters with homemade whip cream and bacon, chilled at the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, and had a tasty lunch both by the beaches today. It was chill, and relaxed. More days need to be like this.

Happyish Friday. Made adjustments to paintings, chatted with my mom, and I need to pack up for a crafty sleepover with lifelong friends tomorrow! 😀 Gotta look at the glimmers in the storm clouds right? And yes, I painted over a tiny hand to be redone. Again. 😆.

a good form of resistance for me, right now, as an artist, Filipino-American, and Neurodivergent mom (with everything going on in the US right now that amplifies my anxiety, for myself and my family) is to keep freakin' creating. paint about my culture and life, loud and effing proud.

slowly making changes, putting the spear in the other hand (facing down) as a defensive stance, and the left yellow area made to mirror another painting, removed the other cap sleeve because perspective. feels good to paint again. 🥰

also diving back into more mixed media, molding paste, stencils and clothing patterns oh my! mom made my clothes as a kid so I feel it fits the theme of trying to pass as Neurotypical/white world, but respecting her resilience as a Filipino in the states. ok. it's a lot, but so am I.

I am super happy with how kiddo's costume came out this year. At trunk or treat, so many kids, recognized his character & he even roleplayed by "stalking" the playground at the event lol. I kept hearing "99 nights!!" "it's a crossbow cultist!" "bro, I love your costume!" best of all: he is happy.

Did some bookbinding using upcycled book covers from The Book Rescuers in Largo, Florida and planing wood pieces to make more cradled panels for painting. I'm falling into other hobbies outside of painting. Am I avoiding painting? Maybe 😂.

It's nice to go back and actually experiment with different techniques. I love mixing metallic pigments into paint, and painting with string dipped into acrylic wash. Both are methods I've used since my undergrad classes. #artprocess #gold #surrealart #portrait #art
