Sometimes I think about the Sy Snootles bust from Gentle Giant that I didn’t buy for $20 at a store’s Going Out Of Business Sale years and years back. I have whole failed human relationships I have no regrets over but THIS was one of my moral failings.

We weren’t a magazine family, since those cost money, but I had #49 (Empire Anniversary), #50 and #54 (Indiana Jones 20th Anniversary Double Issue). Those poor issues got a lot of mileage. Wish I still had them somewhere.

Ten year old me used to read the pull quotes from Insider #50 into my tape recorder and pretend I had a Star Wars talk show with celebrity guests. It’s sad to see them go.

Carrie Fisher was equal parts brutal honesty and impish hilarity. She fought stigma, made art out of heartbreak and saved lives simply by being unapologetically herself and creating space in the world for people to do the same. That’s her true legacy. No space buns required.
