that might be why my previous optimization of making npc code not run when npcs were more than 100 units away from the player worked so well. because it was halting the footstep code. maybe i could even remove that older optimization... well. maybe. might make it a setting.

it's hard to make a suggestion. the best solution would be something custom that requires a personalized attack to bypass. that's what i do.
