“If America put much more money and energy…into public school systems, parks and recreation, the arts, and healthcare, it could take an awful lot of sting out of society. We’ve largely dismantled those things.”

I watched a cop stop and park in a bike lane in Ottawa so he could go grab a breakfast sandwich from Subway, instead of driving ahead literally 30 feet to pull into the *empty Subway parking lot*. “Breaking little rules because I’m in uniform” is what chips away at public trust.

Nick Offerman as Vice President Chester A. Arthur in Death By Lightning is one of my favourite things on TV this year. His arc from party hack to VP to reformist President deserves to be better known.

At least in 2003 they put some basic effort into trying to convince everyone that the Iraq war was necessary and just. They tried to get allies onboard. They went to the UN Security Council. It was BS, but they did it. Trump is just claiming his right to do it like Homer slapping people with a glove

This paragraph from Natasha Brown’s “Assembly” describes going to a corporate job every day and reading it felt like looking into my own soul

Oh shit, is that the conceit? Disappointing.

People should just read Prophet Song and The Mandibles instead
