It unapologetically confronts the norms put forth by the heteronormative majority of society by repeatedly showing that once you stop trying to be something other than who you are you’ll become the best version of yourself. It provides a future for those who never saw themselves in it.

One of the things the show does very well, of which there are many, is show queer joy as the inevitable outcome of being your authentic self. Growing up without that sort of representation made long term and happy relationships seem impossible/dangerous. HR doesn’t lean on tropes or stereotypes.
