A baby Dolomedes raptor attempting to balloon in lab 🥹 Only 2mm in size, this one could grow to be ~35mm and weigh nearly 2g if female.

I am pleased to share that I have been selected for the 2025-26 Fulbright Presidential STEM initiative award. This initrive was created by presidents Joe Biden and Suk Yeol Yoon to celebrate the 70 year alliance between our countries. I am excited to study the Dolomedes spiders of South Korea! 🇰🇷🕷️

I’m not ready for field season, but I miss my study species dearly. Enjoy these fishing spiders in copula. Males always expire shortly after insemination while still inside the female. Females cannibalize shortly after. Here, a male hangs from a female’s reproductive opening as she sits on my arm.

I was having a bad day, so my friend offered to take me to the field for an hour and collect pond water. I feel better now.

(Btw I don’t know anything about freshwater ecology so somebody tell me what I’m seeing bc it looks amazing)

I kept telling my friend how sad I was that I missed Lunar New Year in the States and couldn’t celebrate while in Germany. I returned to work this week and she surprised me with 약과 and 다식! I feel so loved. Happy year of the snake! ❤️🐍

Eight legs to bring a little joy to your timeline (skyline?). Zoropsis spinimana, aka the “Nosferatu spider.” Isn’t she so cute? 🥹

Thank you to @wolffspider.bsky.social and your lab @evoimec.bsky.social for a warm welcome in Greifswald! Please follow them and their amazing work!

🧵 1/ Words cannot describe publishing my first article in Korea as an adoptee. I am coauthoring a series on arachnid behavior in Donga Science (과학동아). It is surreal to see my Korean name in print.

Korea, I am still here and I am still your daughter.

Dolomedes tenebrosus! My dissertation species. 🥰 This is a female (larger spider on left) and female (smaller spider underneath) mating. Males always die inside females after insemination and females will always cannibalize the males after mating.

🧪 What happens when an arachnologist and chemist try to communicate.
