Re-reading Chadwick's classic work on "The Hybrid Media System" feels wild, when it shows pre-TikTok/Reels media consumption:

"By 2011 [...] Americans were watching video on a mobile phone for an average of four hours per month. These figures may be small [...] but they are still significant"

The times are dire, but some online platforms still seem to deplatform right-wing extremists. The head of the Austrian far-right „Identitarian Movement“ Martin Sellner reports to be cut off of his crypto monetization channels.

Paper titles from different fields sometimes sound very niche. But this one caught my attention and I was very lucky to continue reading. This is so insightful and enriching for my own work. Highly recommend!

How many citations in scholarly papers are ERRONEOUS CITATIONS? (citations that do not support the statement they are cited against)

Comment your guess before reading the answer in the next post.

Just as an update - I tried the premium subscription (in the name of science!) and the search works. But the endpoint you found only searches within channels the Telegram account is already subscribed to. No *real* global search. Nothing like this is implemented yet, it seems. A pity.

#Telegram research is about to be changed:

Telegram introduced a global keyword search. (Not yet implemented in telethon)

Pro-democratic participation on German Telegram?

This paper is the result passionate and harmonic work by three happy co-authors (see below). Honestly, I could not be prouder.

Snoop Dogg monetizes on Telegram now and makes shoutouts to Durov on X? 💸💸💸

I don’t know if this is really the way to gain traction in the western influencer economy.

Thanks for pointing me to this! Very interesting indeed - quite a similar topic and method like my collaborators and I recently published. (Even though we did not link our analysis to “offline“ parliamentary debates, as you did, which I find intriguing)

I might be late to the party, given the citation count, but:
I really enjoyed this exceptional piece on deplatformization and core-periphery dynamics of (far right) platform ecosystems.

Surely this is aimed at public communication channels of government officials - but if it is that high of a threat, shouldn’t those channels also be shut down?

I personally thought X has regressed to a right-wing alt-tech platform. But this year’s Reuters News Report shows *no* change in the the (low) German numbers of news use 🤯
Do new users even out the “X-odus“?

#Telegram started to be more transparent about how they cooperate with national governments & hand over user data. Here is a GitHub collecting this very interesting transparency data.

Yao-Tai Li with a fascinating article about the challenges pro-democracy social movement organizers face. Also, notice the platforms used by the organizers in the sample: Telegram seems quite influential in connecting and mobilizing the Hong Kong democracy movement.
