And yet... it's Palm Springs. Shouldn't such needs already be accommodated by the hotel amenities? Because Palm Springs.

Minus points to Drea and Ify for not grabbing the low-hanging fruit to tell Alonso re: THE NOTEBOOK, "We envy you getting to enjoy it for the first time." PS. Why is that t-shirt not in the merch store? PPS. Plus point to Drea for RunPee. Been loving it for years. HIGHLY recommend.

Selena Gomez in the Father of the Bride sequel, please! If not as the daughter, then as the caterer who teams up with Martin Short's wedding planner/séance medium to prove that Steve Martin sees ghosts, but she's exhausted by them both.

Also... I'm really happy for these actors. They clearly enjoy working with each other. And now they'll get a chance to flex a few more of their talents. Surely there will be someone who can't quite carry a tune. But I'd bet money we'll also be surprised by a few who can belt one out.

Is that going to be for everyone? No. And that's OK. Not everything has to be for everyone. Not even every episode of your favorite show. The alternative would be safe which and boring. Creativity need to take big swings, even if it's finding new ways to give new life to familiar tropes.

That's where I see the musical episode, because it is absolutely a trope. Perhaps a trope new to Star Trek, but definitely familiar to contemporary audiences. See: Buffy the Vsmpire Slayer, "Once More With Feeling." And if anyone can take this creative swing, it is certainly the writers of SNW.

Time travel episode
Body switch
Whole crew goes crazy
Primitive planet thinks we're God's
Cross-over episode
Etc
But not only do they (brilliantly) repackage old tropes. They also aren't afraid to take big swings while updating them for a contemporary audience. (See "Those Old Scientists.")

In my opinion, what has made SNW so broadly appealing to a variety of Trek fans is that it is so absolutely originally unoriginal. This is a show which traffics in familiar tropes, but has the budget and writing talent to put a fresh spin on the things we love.
