Arguing semantics over this but breezing over the part where she said 15-year-olds are the "barely legal type[s]" is also the reddest of red flags.

Moorad can come back. But only if he puts Headley in the Padres Hall of Fame.

...you're looking for a photo of the bobblehead, aren't you?

My favorite part was calling a 90-win team that missed the playoffs only a year after dealing their franchise pitcher a "highlight." My man, that's the fear of what might reoccur here!

So maybe MSP has the means. But let's assume Moorad's take in the McLaren sale is half of MSP's overall take; it's still significantly less than Krasovic claims.
November 14, 2025 at 6:30 AM
Main thrust of the article is Moorad sold his stake in McLaren for "more than $5 billion." And the Padres are valued at $1.95B, so now it's a realistic possibility!

Only the sports capital group he's co-partner and CEO of sold their 33% stake in a *company* valued at $5B.

A) Not mine. It was my request, but 100% a @stfu.dad creation.

B) It's my profile's background photo.

Kras states Moorad "[sold] his stake in McLaren Racing for 'more than $5 billion,' per Axios." That's a mischaracterization of what the article says.

They note McLaren Racing is *valued* anywhere at more than $5B (it's anywhere from $4.05B to $5B depending on the source). MSP sold its 33% share.

Honestly, this whole thing has felt more comparable to the Orioles situation. Only it's a way worse time to sell because...well, it's the Padres.
November 13, 2025 at 9:17 PM
That's a good question and - if the payback figures are correct - you're probably right in that it's not as likely an outcome as it was in Minnesota. Plus, $150M is an easier hurdle to clear in any potential sale than the $425M the Pohlads were looking to clear when they were shopping the Twins.

Not every franchise gets one Rockstar GM era. To think, we might get TWO in under 15 years?! Chills.
November 13, 2025 at 7:03 PM
Close, but I'd argue this is a flawed comp. Sure, we both spent money fixing up something that has been neglected since the '60s. And, yes, my house is worth a lot more than when I purchased it about a decade ago.

The biggest difference is I can afford it, and don't ever plan on selling.
November 13, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Only positive from John's statement is that it doesn't seem as likely that they're interested in bringing aboard minority owners to help with debt management. So, hopefully, not a Twins situation where they strip down the team for a potential sale and the same dunces keep running it.

Came here to commend mensie on a job well done, but your post is the real winner.

Which is to say, if we're ignoring the rotation/bullpen, Preller will need to be extra savvy when building out the rest of the bench and targeting a 1B to build a lineup that's better overall than the one he finished the season with.
November 7, 2025 at 6:14 PM
Is this an addition by subtraction argument (plus Fermin and Laureano)? I agree that the addition of those two for 2026 is a big improvement on paper over OD 2025, but I'd argue 4 of the 8 guys currently penciled into the lineup are age-based regression candidates; so it's closer than it seems.

"Tell me, or I'm having AJ call DePo."
November 6, 2025 at 11:55 PM
Yeah, I was going to say...

1. He knows a lot of guys in that clubhouse
2. Knows the org
3. Was here six seasons

...isn't what I'd prioritize, but it's still important and I think works in his favor.

Could argue it's a tie for 2nd, I guess.

I'm not a fan of the hire, but it's crazy to think this is still only the third-most crazy managerial hire of the offseason.
November 6, 2025 at 8:46 PM
Counsell's hiring also came at a time when hiring guys w/no coaching experience wasn't uncommon. You had Hinch, Ventura, Matheny, Weiss, Ausmus, Counsell, and Servais.

Rehashing something old that didn't yield a ton of positive results instead of meeting your industry in the present feels very AJ.
