Web developer persistently dabbling in game design and art. Voracious consumer of all games tagged as Metroidvania or Soulslike, and somehow no longer waiting for a Splinter Twin unban. Mostly a lurker.
Today’s project: I really do love Majora’s Mask, and the pieces with heavy black shadows are some of my favorites. I was a little scared to draw the mask because it felt daunting / complex even drawing from a reference, but I’m really happy with how it turned out.

Yesterday’s project; I really, really want to get good at heavier line art so I decided to focus on it for a day or two. Been enjoying drawing pigeons for a community project and thought it’d be a good subject - then I wanted to make it weirder for fun!

Posting a few to catch up from the last few days, this was 11/13/25. Majora’s Mask is one of, if not the, most influential games to me and my personal favorite. Wanted to try my hand at the terrifying moon.

Been rediscovering how much I enjoy art and seeing the amazing work people post here has been absolutely pivotal to my re-inspiration, especially the clips people post of their studies. Figure it’d be fun to share my progress as well! Study from 11/12/25!

#8 - Mandragora: Had a mostly good time with this metroidvania soulslike. Combat, exploration, and story were all really enjoyable, but the experience was somewhat marred by an incredibly grindy upgrade system that I ended up just ignoring after a while for how slow it was.

#7 - Hades: In a Rogue-y mood, I finally beat Hades after 4 times starting and dropping it, and with a 10-win streak no less. I think that being able to progress the story without pause and having fully unlocked the metaprogression in my prior runs was the key, allowing me to ignore the Rogue-ness

#6 - West of Dead: Of all the roguelites for me to finally finish, I did not think it would be this one. Seem like the slower pace and the wonderful narration mixed with the Weird West genre that I love was just the right combination.

Tails of Iron - overall an enjoyable game that I think I was somewhat bogged down by a tedious quest structure that felt like dressed up fetch quests. Combat did feel great and the world was well constructed though, so I did end up enjoying my time. I plan on playing the sequel but after a break!

Ender Magnolia - while I think I prefer the atmosphere and music of the original, Magnolia thoroughly sands down the rough edges of the first game and delivered a really enjoyable Metroidvania experience. Easily ranks amongst the best of the genre for my tastes!

The most recent finish from 2 nights ago was 2022’s Weird West. Having an ImmSim be 3rd person was a fun idea to explore and it played surprisingly well. The story stayed interesting throughout and I really enjoyed the setting. Would definitely play more in this style if we ever get it!

Catching up to today with the second game I beat, the System Shock Remake. Never played the OG but feeling inspired to try everything remotely ImmSim-like recently, I dove head first into the convoluted maze like structure of SS’s space station. Got terribly lost, killed by mutants, had a blast!

I’ve seen the trend of year-spanning “Games I played” threads and they seem like a fun way to log what I’ve played and maybe spark new conversation, so I’m starting my own 2025 version with Lunacid. Loved the vibes of this one and exploring the world was a wonderful experience.
