In my head there's a superhero story that goes something like:

Hero: I thought Captain Planet wanted to save the environment?
Heart Ring Kid: Yes.
Hero: But he's killing a bunch of people!
Heart: He's killing about a dozen *specific* people.
Hero: So he's a villain!

Okay, but "Making sure I have at least one novel on my trip to the Underworld because A) I haven't finished it yet and B) what if I get bored." is SUCH a mood. I can't figure out if some version of that is the start of a story or what I want on my tombstone.

Group of horror writers get together for a reunion in a cabin. They start co-writing a horror script about the skeleton crew of a space arc who discover a cursed snow globe that's locked them in a Christmas time loop. Perspective jumps between cabin and ship.

Then the writers start dying.

For me the split keyboard solved the shoulders and elbows strain, not the back. (The standing desk was the solution for the back and hips.)

But yes, it is wild how much relief is created when you move your hands from here...to *here*.

I do this and also the engagement hubris variation, where I do the timely, "ha ha I am so clever" post, also rewriting it five times, thinking this might just be my Rice Truck/Bigolas Dickolas moment...and then scroll past five posts making the same point, more concisely or saliently.

Yeah, "hyperactivity doesn't always mean physical movement" was one of those moments of education as a teacher when I just looked into the camera of my childhood like Jim from the Office.

Me, thinking about the way I distractedly ate breakfast this morning one-handed while reading the first of seven books on Venice I got from the library at once: Oh, I must be pretty neurotypical then.

Instead, we stood there in sweat-glistening awkwardness for a few eternities until some other author walked up and asked if we were all caught up on Dan-da-Dan and liberated us.

To answer the initial question though, I think N.K. Jemisin would politely lie about an urgent phone call to ditch me.

In the l'esprit de l'escalier of it all, I have since realized that the answer I should have given was that I'm thinking a lot lately about video games, ttrpgs, and narrative fiction, and how they can inform, reference, and outright steal from one another.

I was wearing a Critical Role t-shirt!

*Very* comforting to know that there are at least two of us.
