A characteristically thought-provoking review by Nicholas Vrousalis focusing particularly on the coherence of the idea of impersonal domination www.ejpe.org/journal/arti...

Both illustrations were re-used (perhap to save money) from earlier books published by Capital's publisher Maurice Lachâtre: "Histoire des papes" and his "Nouveau dictionnaire universel"

Recently learned that the more well-known illustration of the French edition of Capital (first image) was not the only one, and that there were at least two others that were full of republican iconography (second and third image)

Really pleased with this review by Sam Ben-Meir which nicely captures what I was trying to do with Citizen Marx

Even stranger is that in the French, Marx changed it to "Argus" i.e. a hundred-eyed giant rather than a one-eyed giant

As an aside I'm not quite sure why its translated as "Titans" when in German Marx used "Cyclopes"

Googled a line from the new Capital translation and its AI search hallucinated this slop

Watching Russo play Italy reminds me of the story that when Jean-Jacques Rousseau was baptised Catholic in Turin it was as Giovanni-Giacomo Russo

I'm not sure about the 2007 point. But I think @sorenmau.bsky.social is right that the biographical reason I don't engage with VFT is my more analytic background. I think its a fair critique that I should have done so (thought I'm not sure to what extent I would've ended agreeing/taking it on)

Couldn’t agree more with this conclusion from @sorenmau.bsky.social ’s very generous review ✊
