Mail call!

Thanks to the many friends who have recommended this to me over the years. Snagged a nice copy (mildew excluded - wiped the whole book down with alcohol wipes when I unpacked it! 😬) from AbeBooks. Looking forward to this, likely in January.

I was telling @comicfoil.bsky.social earlier about my holy grail, passed on when I was 9 because I thought it was too big an ask of my mom. I obtained it via eBay several years ago, and upon unwrapping and smelling the 45-year old newsprint, wept for a minute.

What’s a book/issue you’ve waited on?

It’s 34 degrees, 30 mph sustained winds with 50 mph gusts…

Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow? -Ben Franklin (not)

Trick is, we have several inches of snow arriving on the weekend, so I’ll need to bag whatever I can ahead of that. Sure glad all the trees are 2-3 weeks late this year.

House ad at the end of Marvel Treasury Edition 25 (1980). Even an oversized comic book got deep-sixed by the boycott!

Here’s an interesting wraparound, on Marvel Treasury Edition 25 (1980) - Al Milgrom and Jack Abel front coverin’, with Bill Sienkiewicz and Bruce Patterson closing the deal.

By the way, here is the back cover of Marvel Treasury Edition 24 (1979) - allegedly by the same artists credited on the front.

It ain’t close…

Roy Thomas, Herb Trimpe, and Jack Abel, in this detail from Incredible Hulk 175 (1974).

May as well get my Hulk on.

Interesting tale about this cover - from the GCD: It appears copied from a John Byrne drawing (1979 Marvel Hulk Calendar); positions, clothes, and details almost identical to the Byrne drawing. JB states he was not aware at the time that his drawing was used.
